Star Tours 2.0

Chances are you’ve heard of the Star Wars saga, and the Disney attraction based on it, Star Tours, a motion-simulator ride that flies you through the Star Wars universe. It was recently announced at the D23 expo that this classic attraction will be receiving a major refurbishment and update in 2011. The update will get rid of the current story, which takes you a trip to the forest moon of Endor from Star Wars Episode VI, and replace it with a new story with elements from the second trilogy as well such as the podrace sequence from Episode One.

This is upsetting to many long time Star Wars fans who were not thrilled with the release of Episodes I-III. They argue that there is no reason that these movies need to be included in this great attraction. However, the inclusion of the newer films in the attraction will please many teens and young adults who grew up with this generation of Star Wars movies. My position? Well personally I think that the original trilogy is far better then the new movies, but that’s not to say I don’t think they should be included in the attraction. Once Disney adds the new additions to the ride, a whole new generation of Star Wars fans will open up to this attraction, making it an extremely popular asset to the Disney Parks. This, in turn, helps out park attendance and ultimately the Walt Disney Company.

So while this refurbishment may not sit well with Star Wars vets, it will help out Disney parks, and we can all be thankful for that.
